Enhancing Wellbeing through Design for People with Dementia in Residential Care

No Place Like Home: Enhancing Wellbeing through Design for People with Dementia in Residential Care

In partnership with Villa Maria Catholic Homes, I lead innovative cross-faculty research at Swinburne focused on evaluating the effectiveness of environmental design to transform the perception of space, aid in memory support and enhance the quality of life for residents living with dementia at the centre. Collaborating with Associate Professor Patricia Buckley, Faculty of Business and Law, this project aligns with the CDI’s research priorities in the allied health and aged care industries. As a design-led innovation it represents a shift from static environmental design solutions to the shaping of flexible social and physical spaces that are more responsive to the varied needs of residents in the long term.
