MODE: Mobility support for people with Dementia

Article by Annika Sutter

This project aims to provide a system which enables dementia patients to independently manage their own activities.

The system, called MODE, is equipped with wireless sensors that can be easily installed by caregivers. A relationship was established with a SME in the Netherlands to develop the sensing technology.

The system recognizes the daily activities, like shopping, based on the input from sensor data and changes in activity patterns are reported to the caregivers. Furthermore, the wearer can be easily tracked and provided support through the smart sensor installed inside their shoes.

MODE enables both people with dementia to feel safe and peace of mind for their caregivers.
