Dr Nicole Aimers

CDI Post Doctoral Fellow: Core Program - Smart Wearables Technology and Design

Dr Nicole Aimers is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Design Innovation. Nicole’s interests reside within the areas of Health Design and Psychology. Her current research is focusing on sports concussion and also the motivators and barriers to the wearing of protective gear. The ultimate aim of Nicole’s research is to design a cost-effective helmet using advanced materials and sensors to provide superior protection to the head. The helmet will not only provide a high level of comfort but will also help absorb any force that occurs, thereby reducing the severity of the impact during sports related contact. In addition to protective gear, Nicole is also investigating the design and development of a tool to monitor and provide feedback to physicians and physiotherapists on the rehabilitation progress of patients recovering from serious injuries. Nicole completed her PhD with the Faculty of Health, Arts, and Design at Swinburne and also holds a BA (Hons) in Psychology.
