City Council of Wyndham

The Ageing Well Strategy has been developed to provide direction to Council efforts in preparing our community for ageing, and making Wyndham more age-friendly. This is essential for the wellbeing and quality of life of older people as well as delivering broader benefits to the overall community. The Strategy aims to change attitudes away from a focus on loss of ability to maximising capacities and opportunities. This is particularly true for older people living with dementia. The demand for our dementia activity group is growing as relatives in the caring role also need time relief and advice on how to care for their loved ones. Currently there is a shortage of engaging and enjoyable activities for this section of our community. Work done by the Swinburne research team during the last three years under the lead of Sonja Pedell is in strong alignment with our strategy and has had already great impact on what we can offer to our clients achieving this strategy.
