Dr Samantha Edwards-Vandenhoek’s research seeks to advance the role design plays in community belonging and societal well-being. The significance lies in its transdisciplinary orientation and real-world impacts. Samantha’s interests traverse place-making, community-based participatory action research and Indigenous knowledge systems. Moreover, how design as discourse can enrich transdisciplinary collaborations. Her current research explores how social practice art initiatives informed by participatory design processes can transform the experience of place in remote Indigenous communities. Samantha is also deeply committed to the advancement of Indigenous design and innovation, more broadly. As a communication designer and exhibiting digital media-artist, Samantha has an awarded studio and teaching practice.
